Vestibular rehabilitation involves assessment and treatment of your vestibular system which is made up of the apparatus in your inner ear and connections to your brain and muscles. Dizziness, vertigo, imbalance and falls are typical problems that occur when your vestibular system is not working as well as it should. At Active Health + Sports Clinic, your vestibular physiotherapist will perform an assessment and provide treatment to help improve your symptoms.

BPPV is the most common problem that can affect your vestibular disorder. Crystals in your inner ear become displaced and can cause the sensation of the room spinning (vertigo) with certain head movements. Vestibular rehabilitation is very successful in relocating the crystals to alleviate your symptoms. Vestibular neuritis and labyrinthitis are usually due to a virus affecting your vestibular nerve. Dizziness, vertigo, nausea and imbalance can be very severe for a few days, and sometimes will linger for weeks. Vestibular rehabilitation helps normalize your vestibular system to help with earlier resolution of your symptoms. Sometimes dizziness is related to neck problems (cervicogenic.) Vestibular rehabilitation may include treatment to your neck to help resolve your symptoms. Other conditions that benefit from vestibular rehabilitation include Meniere's syndrome, concussion related dizziness, Mal de Debarqument and disequilibrium associated with aging.
